6th GRADE CLASS 2010-2011

Art (Lisa Thomas)- Your student will be introduced to art by working with many different types of art mediums for various art experiences throughout the school year.  Some examples would be:  collage, clay, sketching, water colors, water color pencils, paper mache and string art.  In the second semester a recycled are project will be due, very specific guidleines and rules wil be apelled out in class.  Most projects will be finished at Academy, but homework may be assigned as deemed necessary.
(supplies: $10 art fee to be paid at Parent Meeting; composition notebook, pocket folder, 4 sharpened pencils.)

History (Enid Valentine)- TBD
(supplies: folder with prongs and pockets; paper; pen or pencil)

Math (Lorri Harper) - This class covers the math involved in shopping with sales, eating out & tipping, budgeting, and household bills, (electric, gas, phone, & credit cards).
(supplies: $3 copy fee to be paid at Parent Meeting, pencil, paper, simple calculator, folder for work)

Science (Lanette Stewart) - We will begin the year discussing the some history of Science and the scientific method, then move into a study of Life Science.  Material and experiments will be taken from the Apologia General Science text. (Book not necessary for the class.)
(supplies: $5 supply fee; any notebook, pencil or pen, and a few colored pencils. *This class will meet outside several times during the school year, so appropriate dress for the weather is recommended.* )

Writing (Lorri Harper) - History based writing lessons in structure, style, vocabulary and grammar.
(supplies: $5 copy fee to be paid at Parent Meeting, folder for work, pen, paper,  highlighter)

Report cards will be given for each semester for grades 3-12. Students are assigned grades based on class work, homework, class participation and tests. Students enrolling in 6th grade classes must attend for the entire day.
