KINDERGARTEN CLASS 2010-2011
Teachers: Stephanie Caldwell & Nancy Boykin
Dear Parents,
We are so excited to have your child in class! We have so many new friends to make, lessons to learn, and fun to be had! We pray that Homeschool Academy will be a fun, educational, and social experience for your child. Each week we will go over some basic kindergarten curriculum including calendar skills and counting to 100. We will also be introducing a new letter and sound, as well as sight words, each week. We realize that you are teaching your own child at home at his/her own pace. We are simply encouraging your work. Please do not rely on us to teach what your child needs to know this year. Your child will either become more confident in what he/she already knows or be introduced to new skills with us in a fun, friendly, encouraging environment with a little bit of positive peer pressure! There will be no testing, only good exposure.
Please check your child’s folder each week as this is our main avenue of communication with you, the parent. A calendar will be attached to the folder to keep you informed of the letter of the week, sight words, and upcoming events. We also ask that you check to see if your child received a sticker on his/her calendar each week. If he/she did not receive one it means he/she did not follow the class rules and was not awarded a sticker for good behavior. A note from the teacher should be made as to which rule(s) he/she did not adhere to, but if you ever have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us. We suspect that we won’t have any problems with your angel, but those details needed to be covered just in case!
Every week we have “Show and Tell”. Please help your child select something special to bring in and show to the class. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. The children enjoy all kinds of things including school projects from home or even pictures of their friends, family and pets!
We love to celebrate birthdays! If you would like to bring a treat to share with the class on your child’s birthday, please notify us at the beginning of the month of your child’s birthday. We encourage you to stay away from cupcakes and other items with a heavy amount of frosting. These are hard for little hands and mouths to handle and usually end up all over the place! Some ideal alternatives are rice crispy treats, cookie cakes, or cookies.
It is a privilege to work with your child! We look forward to getting to know each one. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments please don’t hesitate to contact us. The easiest way to get a hold of us is by e-mail.
Sincerely,
Nancy Boykin
